Me: (as Riley walks into the living room and the local news is on TV) Riley, let's change the channel to a kiddo show. My shows are boring.
R: Mommy, are you boring?
This week as so many people in Japan are suffering from the destruction of the earthquakes and tsunami, I'm reminded of a hymn that I remember singing quite a bit as a child and one that I'm sure most are familiar with.
But instead of the words "great" meaning "wonderful" or "sings my soul" meaning "singing with joy," I'm remembering that sometimes we must be brought to our knees by the GREAT (meaning "massive") power of God and the fact that sometimes songs can be songs of grief and sadness. But my song also includes many verses of gratitude that there is a God who is loving, knows our suffering ... and comforts us if we ask.
